Planning your journey
Follow the traditional road route into Argyll & the Isles along the A82 as far as Dunbarton, Balloch and Loch Lomond.
You can continue by either following the A814 along the Clyde from Dumbarton to Helensburgh. Alternatively, you follow the A814 northwards to Arrochar with a detour on the B833 to explore the stunning Rosneath peninsula. The A817 linking Loch Lomond to Garelochhead is a stunning drive in either direction offering panoramic views to the east and west.
A fun way to travel is on the passenger ferry service across the Clyde estuary that links Gourock, Kilcreggan and Helensburgh. It's a 15 minute crossing from Gourock to Kilcreggan and 25 minutes from Kilcreggan to Helensburgh. Services from Gourock link into trains from Glasgow Central Station and there are up to a dozen crossings a day, making the ferry a handy link for anyone planning to explore the Rosneath peninsula
Or why not access Helensburgh via Scotrail's West Highland Line, or by West Coast Motors, and finally by walking the Three Lochs Way or using cycle routes.
